When the Sun Finally Comes Out: Fresh Flavors, Spring Recipes, and the Magic of Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat

February 26, 2025

Hi Reader,

There's something magical about the first sunny days after winter

It’s as if the world starts waking up again, and everything feels lighter, brighter, and full of possibility- although maybe that's me getting the extra vitamin D I've been deficient on all winter.

This week has had two sunny days with above 50 degree weather. It reminds me why I love living in a place with seasons- you can't appreciate Spring without Winter.

As the sun finally breaks through the clouds, I find myself inspired to open the windows, breathe in the fresh air, and embrace the seasonal shift. I was even considering if I should do yoga on my patio later today and get some loving movement into these joints.

It’s a reminder that change, even the smallest ones, can bring so much joy. I’m feeling that energy this week and am eager to dive into some early spring projects, both in the home and in the kitchen.

5 Simple Ways to Bring Spring Into Your Home

  1. Declutter and Refresh: A reminder to do some early spring cleaning and clear out things that no longer serve you. I've got a bag of clothes that I just know I won't wear and can't resell on Poshmark that I am ready to let go of.
  2. Let the Light In: Open windows and let the natural light fill your space to brighten up your home and spirit.
  3. Add Fresh Greenery: Start small with potted plants or herbs to bring in some fresh life. I've got two pots of parsley that I've been trying germinate!
  4. Switch to Lighter Textiles: Swap out heavy blankets and dark colors for lighter throws and brighter cushions.
  5. Embrace Seasonal Scents: Bring in light, fresh scents—like citrus or lavender—through candles or oils.
