Hi Reader,
🌿 Opening Thought
Tomorrow is Earth Day, and yet (if you're in the Midwest like me) it hardly feels like the earth is ready for us just yet.
It's been a cold spring this year. We haven't wanted to be outside to plant. The tulips haven't come out yet. We aren't running around after school like we hope to in the morning. I'm so ready for spring to spring, but it seems like it's the season of wanting to start and struggling to begin.
But maybe that’s part of the rhythm too. Maybe Earth Day isn’t just about grand gestures and planting trees. It can also be a quiet reminder to pay attention. To notice the soil still sleeping. To sit with the slowness. To ask what the earth needs from us, and what we might need from it in return.
This week, maybe we begin by simply stepping outside. Watching. Listening. Letting the season take its time and trusting that we can take our time too.
🗓️ The Week Ahead
This week is a gentle nudge toward the season ahead. Even if the soil isn’t quite ready, this can be a time for planning, cleaning out garden beds, or dreaming about what you’ll grow when the sun sticks around.
Also: Earth Day on Tuesday. Whether you mark it by planting something or just taking a quiet walk, let it be a day to reconnect with nature, your intentions, or your own sense of slowness.
If you’re feeling that in-between-spring energy, you’re not alone. This week might be a good time for a little food reset: one homemade thing, one new recipe, or even just clearing out the fridge to make space for what’s coming.
Need ideas? Try one of these simple, nourishing favorites from the blog:
🍜 Egg and Bean Burrito - fast and freezer-friendly
🐓 Spatchcock a Chicken - perfect for spring roast dinners
🫐 Perfectly Simple Ice Cream - because we are getting closer to warmer days
Mainly, I'm hoping to finish up with some spring cleaning around the house, get a couple of work projects done and finally post my dark chocolate granola recipe (the best homemade granola!!!).
🧘♀️ Real Rest Tip
Cancel one tiny thing.
Rest sometimes starts with permission. Choose one thing on your list that can wait—or go altogether. Give yourself that small kindness, and notice what opens up in its place.
🍵 Something Simple to Try
Make a tea of the season.
Brew something that fits the chilly-spring mood: peppermint and nettle, lemon balm, or even just a mug of hot water with honey and ginger. Sip it outside if you can. Let it be a ritual of grounding and transition—winter’s stillness warming into spring’s slow energy.
🗳 Question of the Week
What’s one small way you feel connected to the earth right now?
💛 Until Next Time
Wishing you a week full of calm and simple joys. Let’s make it intentional, one small moment at a time.
With warmth,
