Hi Reader,
March always feels like a turning point to me
The days are getting longer, the sun peeks through a little more, and the first signs of spring start showing up at the market. It’s the perfect time to shake off winter’s heaviness and bring fresher, lighter flavors back into the kitchen.
🌱 What’s Coming Into Season? – Depending on where you are, you might start seeing early spring produce like tender greens, radishes, asparagus, and peas. Citrus is still at its peak, making it the perfect bridge between winter and spring flavors. We are going through a 5 pound bag of Cuties every week and suddenly my daughter is begging to have 2 every day after dinner.
🍲 A Shift in Cooking – Hearty stews and slow braises start making way for brighter, fresher meals. Lighter soups, grain bowls, and simple roasted veggies start taking center stage, and I find myself craving more fresh herbs and zesty flavors.
🌞 A Refresh for the Kitchen – With the change in seasons, I always get the urge to declutter. A quick pantry reset, swapping out winter spices for fresh flavors, and adding something small—like fresh flowers or a citrusy candle—helps make my kitchen feel ready for spring.
As I start embracing spring flavors, I’m looking forward to cooking with (and sharing!) recipes that feel fresh but still cozy enough for these in-between weeks.

Featured Cookbook of the Week: The Homemade Pantry
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about the little things we buy out of habit but could easily make at home. That’s why I’m re-reading The Homemade Pantry by Alana Chernila.
This is probably my favorite cookbook of the moment. Incredibly simple in concept and use, this book is packed with recipes for homemade versions of pantry staples—think crackers, yogurt, pasta, even condiments like ketchup and mustard. It’s all about simple, from-scratch cooking that fits into everyday life.
Here’s what makes this book stand out:
- Approachable & Practical – Recipes are designed for real life, with simple ingredients and clear instructions.
- No More Mystery Ingredients – You control what goes into your food, making everything healthier and more flavorful.
- Encouraging & Relatable – Alana shares personal stories and tips that make you feel like you can do this, even if you’re new to from-scratch cooking.
If you’ve ever wanted to swap store-bought for homemade (especially after watching With Love, Meghan!) but didn’t know where to start, this book is full of approachable, doable ideas.
